Pilot participant terms of use
Plain-language terms for taking part in the Climate Chorus closed pilot. The pilot lets you send a real message to a real decision-maker, from your own email, under your own name – so a few things are worth agreeing up front. Companion to the Privacy, Collection & Consent statement. These terms are not legal advice.
Who you're agreeing with
These terms are between you and Climate Chorus Pty Ltd ("Climate Chorus", "we"). Questions: hello@climatechorus.com.
1What this is
- Climate Chorus is a closed, invite-only pilot of a civic-action app. It's a test build – some features are still being finished, and it may change, pause or end at any time.
- You take part voluntarily, and you can stop whenever you like.
- You should be 18 or over and an Australian resident to take part.
2Real messages, sent by you
- When you choose to act, the app opens your own email app or the decision-maker's own contact form with a suggested message. You review it and send it – nothing is sent until you do.
- The message is sent from your own email account, under your own name, to a real decision-maker or an official submission channel. Once you send it, it can't be recalled. A letter to the editor works differently – you copy the draft and submit it on the newspaper's own form, under your own name.
- The suggested wording is a starting point – you're free to edit it, and you are responsible for the final message you send.
- A letter to the editor is intended for publication. If the paper runs it, your name and suburb become public, permanent and searchable, in print and online, and cannot be withdrawn – by you or by us. The editor decides what runs and how it is edited, and the newspaper's own terms and privacy policy apply to what you submit on its form. Because a published statement reaches the public rather than one office, take extra care that what you write is accurate and fair: the responsibilities in clause 3 matter more here, and anything defamatory or knowingly false carries greater consequences in public than in private correspondence.
3Your responsibilities (acceptable use)
When you use the pilot, you agree that you will not send, write or submit anything that:
- is unlawful, harassing, threatening, defamatory or knowingly false;
- impersonates someone else or misrepresents who you are or where you live;
- infringes anyone's rights, or includes another person's private details without their consent;
- tries to disrupt, misuse or gain unauthorised access to the app or its systems.
Send under your own identity and only from an email account you control. You're responsible for what you send – and, for anything published (see clause 2), for the fact that it will be read publicly and cannot be taken back.
4Information, not advice
- The content in the app – decisions, framing, sources and suggested messages – is provided to inform, and we work to keep it accurate, but it may contain errors or become out of date.
- It is not legal, financial, or professional advice, and it is not advice on how to vote. Decisions you make are your own.
- Some figures shown during the pilot may be illustrative while features are finished; we flag these where we can.
5Your privacy
How we handle your information is set out in the Privacy, Collection & Consent statement, which forms part of these terms. In short: your message and who you send it to go through your own email and are not stored by us; we only keep what you opt into (your email and which decisions you act on); you can unsubscribe or ask for deletion any time, directly from the You tab or by emailing us. Deleting removes your email and survey answers outright; the record of which decisions you acted on is kept with everything that identifies you removed.
6Intellectual property
- The app, its content and brand are owned by Climate Chorus or our licensors. We give you a personal, limited, revocable licence to use the pilot.
- Anything you write stays yours. By submitting a community update or story, you give us permission to show it in the app and to use de-identified feedback to improve the service.
7No warranty & liability
- The pilot is provided "as is", without warranties that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, that a message will reach or move any decision-maker, or that a letter you send will be published – that is the editor's decision.
- To the extent permitted by law, Climate Chorus is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from the pilot. Nothing in these terms excludes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded.
8Ending your participation
- You can stop taking part and ask us to delete your data at any time (hello@climatechorus.com).
- We may suspend or end your access, or the pilot itself, at any time – for example if these terms are breached.
9Changes, law & contact
- We may update these terms during the pilot; we'll make the current version available in the app.
- These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
- Questions or complaints: hello@climatechorus.com.
